Dubai's family businesses professionalise governance ahead of succession

A generational transfer of wealth is pushing family groups towards independent boards and published constitutions.

Dubai's family businesses professionalise governance ahead of succession

The largest family groups in the Emirates are approaching a transition that only happens once a generation. The founders who built regional conglomerates from trading houses are handing operational control to successors educated abroad and fluent in institutional capital.

Formal family constitutions, independent non-executive directors and documented dividend policies are becoming standard, not because regulation demands it, but because banks, partners and future investors do.

The communications dimension is often underestimated. Succession is a public event for a business with thousands of employees and decades of client relationships; silence invites speculation.
